Course Description

PARTS OF THE WHOLE is a six week live online course meeting Thursdays 9:00-11:00am October 31-December 12 - no class on November 28 We will begin by exploring the elements of portraiture, focusing on proportions and proper structure. This ChiaroScuro drawing course will provide a strong foundation in rendering facial features with realism, using structured approaches and accessible tools. We will work with forgiving mediums like charcoal and toned paper, ideal for capturing the features of the human face. This course is an excellent starting point for anyone with a lifelong passion for drawing faces. You'll first learn the importance of understanding the anatomy and basic structure of each facial element. Each lesson will build on the previous one, increasing your confidence week by week. By studying a variety of faces, features, and ages, you'll gain the freedom to eventually work in your chosen medium at your own pace. The next sequence course in January with be portraiture. This course is non-refundable, but each session will be recorded, and you’ll receive a downloadable copy within 24 hours. Please note that there will be no class on Thursday, November 28th.
